Thanksgiving, we gather to cook and enjoy a meal with family. As we spend time in someone else’s kitchen assisting with the cooking task, we should be aware of the hazards that come with cooking a big meal. Thanksgiving is the leading day for home fires that involve cooking.
The National Fire Protection Association has some great tips for home cooking safety below.
- Be alert, especially if you are sleepy or have enjoyed some adult beverages.
- If you are frying, boiling, grilling or broiling food, stay in the kitchen, and do not leave it unattended.
- Use a timer and check up on your Turkey regularly.
- Keep the following away from the stove top. Anything flammable: oven mitts, wooden spoons, towels and even curtains.
