By November 13, 2018Personal Insurance

Thanksgiving, we gather to cook and enjoy a meal with family.  As we spend time in someone else’s kitchen assisting with the cooking task, we should be aware of the hazards that come with cooking a big meal.  Thanksgiving is the leading day for home fires that involve cooking.

The National Fire Protection Association has some great tips for home cooking safety below.

  1. Be alert, especially if you are sleepy or have enjoyed some adult beverages.
  2. If you are frying, boiling, grilling or broiling food, stay in the kitchen, and do not leave it unattended.
  3. Use a timer and check up on your Turkey regularly.
  4.  Keep the following away from the stove top.   Anything flammable: oven mitts, wooden spoons, towels and even curtains.
